GoodSip — Privacy Policy

GoodSip (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is a mobile app operated by Krishna Patel d/b/a GoodSip that lets you log cafe drinks, rate them through head-to-head comparisons, and discover cafes near you. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have.

The short version

• We store the account you create, the drinks you log, and the photos you attach.
• Map location stays on your device. Drink logs may store only a distance number. Cafe suggestions may include your coordinates so we can place the cafe.
• We use product analytics (PostHog in the app; Vercel Analytics on this website). We do not sell your personal information.
• You can delete your account in the app: Settings → Delete Account.

What we collect

• Account information. Email address and a password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider), plus the username and display name you choose, and optionally a home city and profile photo.
• Drink logs and ratings. Cafe, drink details, notes, “which was better?” comparison choices, and scores computed from them.
• Photos. Pictures you choose to take or attach to a logged drink or avatar. We only receive photos you explicitly pick or take — we never scan your photo library.
• App preferences. Settings you choose, saved to your account.
• Location-related data. See Device permissions below.
• Analytics and usage data. App screens, lifecycle events (opened / backgrounded), and a product-analytics identifier linked to your account id when you are signed in (via PostHog). This website may collect standard web analytics via Vercel Analytics.
• Basic connection data. Our hosting providers see standard connection details (such as IP address and device type) when the app or site talks to our servers. We use this to run and secure the service.
• Support communications. If you email us, we keep the correspondence so we can help you.

Device permissions

All permissions are optional — the app works without them, minus that feature.

• Location (while using the app): centers the map and shows cafes near you on your device. When you save a drink log, we may compute and store only how far you were from the cafe (distance in meters) — not your coordinates. When you suggest a cafe we don’t have, we may save your coordinates at that moment so we can identify the right place.
• Camera & photo library: used only when you add a photo to a drink, set an avatar, or save a weekly recap image.

We do not request access to your contacts.

What we don’t do

No advertising SDKs at launch. No payment card collection (GoodSip has no in-app purchases today). No microphone access. No continuous location history. We do not sell your personal information. We may use and share aggregated, de-identified insights — like drink trends by city or cafe — that never include your name, profile, or individual ratings.

How we use your information

• To provide GoodSip: store your logs, compute rankings, sync across devices, and show cafes and menus.
• To build community scores — anonymous statistical aggregates. Ratings you mark private are excluded.
• To moderate photos for safety (automated checks before a photo is stored for sharing).
• To understand product usage and improve the app (analytics).
• To keep the service secure and to respond to support requests.

If we later use analytics data for advertising or cross-app advertising measurement, we will update this policy and follow Apple’s App Tracking Transparency rules where required.

Who can see your information

• Other users can see your public profile (username, display name, avatar, home city) and content you share publicly (for example community Sips photos and notes). Community scores never show your name or individual private ratings.

These providers process data under their terms and our instructions. We require that they provide the same or equal protection of user data as described in this policy and required by the App Store Review Guidelines. We may also disclose information if required by law, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (we will notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy).

Data retention and deletion

• While your account is active: we keep account data, logs, ratings, and photos needed to run GoodSip.
• Account deletion: use Settings → Delete Account in the app. Deletion is prompt (usually within minutes). Any residual cleanup is completed within 30 days. De-identified aggregates that never identified you may remain.
• Operational / server logs: typically up to about 90 days.
• Analytics: retained according to PostHog and Vercel Analytics defaults and our configuration.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest on our primary database and storage provider. Passwords are hashed. Row-level access controls limit each account to its own private data. No system is perfectly secure; we will notify you as required by law if a breach affects your personal data.

Your choices

• Edit or delete profile details, drink logs, and photos in the app.
• Delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete Account).
• Revoke location, camera, or photo permissions in iOS Settings at any time.

Children

GoodSip is not directed at children under 13, and you must be at least 13 to use it. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy as GoodSip evolves. We will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
